Matador Minute ...
Yes, there is tradition at Cal State Northridge ... Sometimes you just have to find it ... Here are two examples ... Nearly 150 CSUN graduates and basketball fans packed into the USU PUB Sports Grill last weekend for a alumni pre-game reception and dinner prior to the men's basketball game vs Cal State Fullerton ... Co-sponsored by the Northridge Alumni Association, University Student Union and Matador Athletics, it was a great opportunity for the alumni to get together and enjoy a CSUN sporting event ... Although the Matadors lost to Cal State Fullerton, a spirited overflow crowd of 1,632 fans cheered on the first place Matadors ... Recently, More than 100 people attended a dinner and reception at the All-Alumni Night to honor the 1993 Matador men's volleyball team which played in the NCAA championship match that year at Pauley Pavilion ... Among the attendees at the dinner, reception and the match (later that evening a 3-0 victory over Pacific) included many former Northridge players from the 31 years of Matador men's volleyball ... This was certainly a night to remember for those people in attendance and a great way to strengthen the tradition between the Northridge men's volleyball program and the alumni ... The Cal State Northridge cheerleaders are raising money to help finance a return trip to the 2008 United Spirit Nationals Feb. 9-11 in Las Vegas ... Recently, the cheerleaders conducted a clinic in which 32 people registered ... After all the bills were paid, the cheer squad netted about $700 in raised funds to help them pay for their trip to Nationals where they finished in fifth place last year ... The fourth stop in the Big West Basketball ShootOut presented by Downtown Disney recently took place on the CSUN campus ... Thirty-one teams competed in The Matadome to produce a men's champion, women's champion and two co-ed finalists ... In the women's competition, Team P&B with team members Brittany Turner and Patrice Thornton emerged as the campus champs ... In the men's division, Above The Rim with team members Rudy Marroquin and Chun Wai Yip took home the title ... Bobby Moore and Brittany Blue teamed up as Team US to win the co-ed competition during halftime of the CSUN-LBS men's game ... Moore and Blue will now compete against eight other Big West schools on March 13 at the Big West Tournament in Anaheim ... The winning team will receive $5,000 ... Turner, Thornton, Marroquin and Yip each received prize packs with restaurant gift certificates and other merchandise.
