Bob Vazquez, Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, offers his weekly insights on the accomplishments of the teams, coaches, and student-athletes who compete for Cal State Northridge ... Matador Marathon ... Have you ever completed a marathon (26.2 miles)? ... Karen Mariglia has ... The hard-working administrative support coordinator is an avid runner, and recently was one of 17,000 runners who competed in the Los Angeles Marathon ... What is amazing is that Karen has run six marathons since turning 50 ... Running is an active passion for Mariglia, and a great way to stay healthy ... The Los Angeles Marathon course began in Universal City, and zigzagged through Los Angeles, and ended in the heart of the downtown area ... Mariglia ran the 26.2 miles in 6:42.53, not her best marathon effort, but 17 minutes faster than her effort in 2007 ... Mariglia laughs when she says she did not finish among the elite Kenyan runners, but is happy she finished the grueling race unhurt ... For her efforts, Mariglia received the official Los Angeles Marathon medallion, and of course, the respect and admiration for accomplishing a challenging effort ... Her next marathon effort will be the Long Beach Marathon in October ... In order to keep to compete in the marathon, Karen runs four days a week, a total of ten miles.
