Twelve Matadors Named to Winter Big West All-Academic Team IRVINE, Calif. - Twelve Matadors have been named to the Winter Big West All-Academic Team as announced by the conference on Thursday. Women's swimming garnered the most honors with five players earning All-Academic accolades. Three student-athletes from women's basketball and men's basketball and one from men's swimming round out the list. To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at Northridge prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically) and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests. Representing women's swimming were senior Diana Daltorio (Monterey Park, CA/History), junior Sarah Freitag (Manhattan Beach, CA/Communication Disorders) and sophomores Kathryn Kerr (San Diego, CA/Kinesiology), Simone Luker (Adelaide, Australia/Undecided) and Emily Rogers (Mill Creek, WA/Business Management). Earning honors from the women's basketball squad were senior Megan Ching (Honolulu, HI/Biology), junior Katie Holloway (Lake Stevens, WA/Journalism) and sophomore Crystal Hahs (San Clemente, CA/Deaf Studies). Representing men's basketball were seniors Terrell Jones (Carson, CA/Business) and Austin Waggener (Inglewood, CA/Business) and sophomore Austen Powers (Glendale, AZ/Biology) and receiving honors for men's swimming was senior Brett Grunert (Menomonee Falls, WI/Civil Engineering). The 12 Matador honorees from the Winter period bring the Northridge yearly total to 27, including the 15 student-athletes who earned Big West All-Academic honors in the Fall. |
