Eighteen Matadors Named to Spring Big West All-Academic Team
IRVINE, Calif. - Eighteen Matadors have been named to the Spring Big West All-Academic Team as announced by the conference on Wednesday. Women's track and field led all teams with seven student-athletes making the list, followed by five for men's track and field, three for women's tennis and one each for baseball, softball and women's golf.
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at Northridge prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically) and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
Representing women's track and field were senior Julia Flores (Reseda, CA/Engineering), juniors Jessica Beach (Olympia, WA/Biology), Ashleigh McGrew (Elk Grove, CA/Business), Diana Rosete (Costa Mesa, CA/Sociology) and Caren Sather (Simi Valley, CA/Kinesiology) and sophomores Kayli Sanders (Baytown, TX/Business) and Sandra Velarde (San Fernando, CA/Spanish).
Earning honors from the men's track and field squad were senior Sean Jones (Fremont, CA/Kinesiology), juniors Landen Llamas (Canyon Country, CA/Business) and Joey Parisi (Oak Park, CA/Business) and sophomores Bradley Ike (Pomona, CA/Psychology) and Cody Pearce (Folsom, CA/Kinesiology).
Representing women's tennis were seniors Kasia Krasinska (Otwock, Poland/Psychology) and Sonya Kumar (Amber Gardens, Singapore/Kinesiology) and junior Canna Furuta (Northridge, CA/Finance). Rounding out the list were baseball's Alex Bardeguez (Coram, NY/Marketing), softball's Sarah Kahn-Shamout (Quartz Hill, CA/Biology) and women's golf's Lucy Davies (Northridge, CA/Journalism).
The 18 Matador honorees from the Spring period bring the Northridge yearly total to 45, including the 15 student-athletes who earned Big West All-Academic honors in the Fall and the 12 student-athletes from the Winter.
