Great Weather Awaits Matador Golf Classic (Monday, June 22)
June 19, 2009
Northridge, Calif. - A check of the weather forecast on Monday (June 22) calls for sunny skies and warm weather.
That's perfect golf weather for the annual Matador Golf Classic at the Porter Valley Country Club.
Nearly 85 golfers, including former Dodger pitcher Bobby Castillo, are expected to test their golf talents on the challenging Porter Valley Golf Course.
The day's events start at 11 a.m. (shotgun start). Lunch on the course will be provided by Claim Jumper Restaurant. Plenty of refreshments will be served to keep the golfers focused on their record-breaking scores.
There will be a putting contest, closest to the pin contest, and a longest drive contest.
There will also be a hole-in-one contest with a chance to win a car courtesy of Hamer Toyota.
At 4 p.m., there will be a reception and silent auction. The auction items include Dodgers and Angels tickets, season tickets to Cal State Northridge basketball games, an In-N-Out Burger Gift basket, a Matador team golf bag (with golf balls), dinner with "Chef Jeff", a six-course dinner for four in your home, gift certificates for a one-night stay and breakfast and brunch for two at the Hilton-Woodland Hills and the Warner Center Marriott, and many more great gifts.
The day's events will end with dinner.
The Matador Golf Classic is an annual event that supports the 20 sports, coaches and the nearly 400 student-athletes at Cal State Northridge.
The money raised in past years had benefited Cal State Northridge Athletics in their pursuit of victory on the court, the field and in the pool. During the 2008-09 academic year, Cal State Northridge enjoyed a highly successful season with Big West Championships in men's basketball, men's and women's track & field, and women's water polo.
"We are grateful for all the outstanding support Cal State Northridge Athletics receives from its fans and supporters," said Tom Ford, one of the tournament's organizers. "It's a fun day for the coaches and the golfers. The weather is great, the golf course is challenging. Everyone has a great time."
Various members of the Matador coaching staff will be playing or on-course assisting with different on-course competitions.
"This is always a fun event," said Bonnie Murphy, Matador women's head golf coach, and one of the tournament's organizers. "This is a great opportunity to meet the coaches, several student-athletes, enjoy a great day on the course, and help the coaches and student-athletes at Cal State Northridge Athletics."
