This Week in Matador Athletics

This Week in Matador Athletics
The Week Ahead ...
Starting this week, there will be a new feature on the gomatadors.com website ... Bob Vazquez, Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, will offer a weekly insight on the teams and student-athletes who compete for Cal State Northridge ... The weekly report includes upcoming key games, a look at the accomplishments of the student-athletes and coaches at Cal State Northridge, and a report on what other activities are happening in the Matador Athletic Department.

Soccer Story...
The scheduled men's soccer game between Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, October 10 at Matador Field has been postponed until Wednesday, November 14 at 1 p.m. at Matador Field. The postponement is due to the untimely passing of Matador soccer player Jay Singh last Sunday at his home in northern California ... Saturday (Oct. 13) at 2 p.m., the men's soccer team hosts UC Riverside ... The Matador men's soccer team recently scored a 3-0 victory over 2007 NCAA finalist and Pac-10 power UCLA, a first in school history ... On Sunday (Oct. 14), the Matador women's soccer team hosts Big West pre-season favorite Long Beach State at 2:00 pm.

Hoops Hoopla ...
It's already time for men's and women's basketball at Cal State Northridge ... Practice officially begins on Friday, October 12 ... The men's program has 12 new players that will increase their roster to 18, while the women have added seven new players ... The men will have a challenging schedule which includes games at Gonzaga (Dec. 8) and at Washington (Dec. 22) ... The women will also feature a highly competitive schedule including a home game against UCLA (Nov. 14, 7:00 p.m.) at The Matadome ... Season tickets are available by calling 818-677-2488.

Volleyball Volumes ...
Mark Nov. 1 on your calender ... That night, the women's volleyball team will host Cal State Bakersfield, and University President Dr. Jolene Koester, will serve as honorary coach ... Dr. Koester is a huge fan of the women's volleyball program, and despite her busy schedule, has attended the last two home matches, both victories over UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton ... At Cal State Northridge's last home match against Cal State Fullerton, Dr. Aki Hirota, Faculty Athletic Representative, was the honorary coach, and CSUN scored a dramatic, come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Titans ... No doubt, Coach Hirota's coaching tips helped secure the victory over CSF.
