Northridge, Calif. - This Friday, October 24, is the deadline for Matador fans to nominate their favorite all-time great Cal State Northridge student-athlete for consideration into the CSUN Athletic Hall of Fame.
After a four-year hiatus, the Cal State Northridge Athletic Department is seeking nominees for deserving former Matador student-athletes, teams, coaches and administrators for induction into the Matador Hall of Fame.
The newest members of the 2009 Matador Hall of Fame will be honored at a banquet on March 1, 2009, at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel.
Many outstanding student-athletes have worn the Matador colors of Red, White and Black since Cal State Northridge opened its doors in 1958. An elite list of 99 student-athletes, former administrators and coaches representing 18 sports have been inducted into the Cal State Northridge Athletic Hall of Fame.
The first CSUN Hall of Fame class was inducted in 1981 which included Dick Enberg (former assistant baseball coach, and now distinguished national broadcaster), former Matador and Angels baseball star Lyman Bostock, and former CSUN track and field champion and Olympian Julie Brown.
"Cal State Northridge has a rich tradition in athletics, and we would like to continue honoring several past student-athletes and teams who distinguished themselves while wearing competing for Cal State Northridge," said Athletic Director Rick Mazzuto.
Any interested person may nominate a candidate by submitting an approved nomination form to The Matador Athletics Hall of Fame Committee. All nominations, in written form, must be submitted to the Committee by October 24, 2008 for consideration for induction on March 1, 2009. Please return the completed forms to

"We highly encourage all Matador fans to actively nominate their favorite former Matador student-athlete, team, coach or administrator who have brought pride and honor to Cal State Northridge Athletics," said Mazzuto.
Former Matador student-athletes who achieved outstanding success during their athletic careers or have achieved professional achievement, former CSUN teams, and coaches and administrator who distinguished themselves are eligible for consideration into the 2009 Matador Hall of Fame. A specific list of qualifications is contained on the nomination form.
Members of the Hall of Fame selection committee include Rick Mazzuto (CSUN Athletics Director), Janet Pinneau (Associate Athletics Director, Student Affairs), Bob Vazquez (Assistant Athletics Director, Media Relations), Don Strametz (CSUN Director of Track & Field/Cross Country), Bonnie Murphy (Head Coach, Women's Golf), Gray Mounger (Assistant Vice-President, Alumni Relations), Mark Cooley (former Matador basketball, longtime Matador supporter, Hall of Fame member), Dennis DeYoung (alumnus), Jim Gorman (long time athletics supporter) and William Watkins (Associate Vice-President, Student Affairs and Dean of Students).
