NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –
Dr. Brandon E. Martin, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Cal State Northridge, is one of nine new sports and business leaders elected to the Los Angeles Sports Council’s board of directors, the organization announced today. Dr. Martin will join the 84-member board for a two-year term.
“I am excited by the opportunity to foster growth in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley while working with the L.A. Sports Council,” said Dr. Martin. “Engaging the community through sports and sporting events will allow our region to continue to succeed on a national scale.”
The mission of the L.A. Sports Council is to promote economic development through sports in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. As a non-profit organization, the Sports Council bids on behalf of the community for the right to host major sporting events and often stages or helps to stage events after successful bids.
Founded in 1988, the Sports Council's efforts represent more than $1 billion in overall economic impact for the region and range from NCAA Championships to the Super Bowl, and from the U.S Olympic Trials to the World Cup.
The Council also works in support of each of the area's established sports teams and facilities.
Joining Dr. Martin as new members to the board of directors are:
Christopher Brearton, Managing Partner, O’Melveney & Myers LLP
