The Week Ahead at Cal State Northridge ...
A Senior Farewell ... Bob Vazquez, Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, offers his weekly insights on the accomplishments of the teams, coaches, and student-athletes who compete for Cal State Northridge.

Volleyball Volumes ...
Friday (Nov. 21) is the final home match of the season for the women's volleyball team and although the season hasn't gone as planned, it still will be a great opportunity to honor the five seniors who will be playing their final home match for Cal State Northridge ... Coaches often say that nobody can ever complain about the final results (win or lose) as long as a player works hard in practice, and gives it their best effort on the playing field ... Kelley Hanson. Amy Hultner, Val Kepler, Jenn Probert and Kayla Wright are all seniors who have given it their best effort for CSUN the past four years ... Hanson has started every match at libero this year and is the school record holder in career digs ... Hultner will finish behind Hanson in career digs ... Kepler is the school record holder in career block assists ... Probert has been a steady veteran player the last four years until a knee injury ended her senior season in mid-September ... Wright will end her career third all-time in career assists ... It would be great if you could make it to the match for the final home match or wish them success in their future journey in life by e-mailing them a word of encouragement and good luck to assistant coach Kiran Mistry (mistry@csun.edu) who will forward your e-mails to the five seniors.

Hoops Hoopla ...
There will be plenty of family and friends for four Cal State Northridge basketball players when the Matadors travel to Stanford for a non-league game on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Maples Pavilion ... Therin Taylor grew up in Richmond (just north of Berkeley) and played at Kennedy High School and Merritt College ... Michael Lizarraga, who is the only deaf player competing in basketball on the NCAA Division I level, graduated from the California School for the Deaf in Hayward (just south of Oakland) ... Jermaine Smith played junior college basketball at Ohlone College (Fremont - north of San Jose) and redshirt sophomore Vinnie McGhee graduated from McClymonds High School in Oakland ... McGhee won't hesitate to tell you that McClymonds has graduated many great athletes including Bill Russell (basketball), Frank Robinson (baseball), Curt Flood (baseball) and Jimmy Hines (track & field - Olympic gold medalist) ... Oh yeah, McClymonds also graduated Grammy award-winning rapper M.C. Hammer.
