Thirteen Matadors Make Academic All-Big West Team
Thirteen Cal State Northridge student-athletes received All-Big West Academic honors on Tuesday as announced by the conference. The men's and women's soccer teams each had four representatives, women's volleyball had three and women's cross country had two.
Four seniors earned the award for men's soccer, Benjamin Benditson (Oak Park, CA/Business Law), Juan Guerrero (Vista, CA/Spanish and Chicano Studies), Radames Lafaurie (Diamond Bar, CA/History and Communications) and Yossi Raz (Natanya, Israel/Business).
Representing women's soccer were seniors Wendee Lensing (Mounds View, MN/Kinesiology-Exercise Science) and Michelle McCollum (Newbury Park, CA/Sociology-Criminal Justice) and juniors Karen Comstock (Palmdale, CA/Kinesiology-Athletic Training) and Leila Pate (Chatsworth, CA/Liberal Studies).
Making the team from women's volleyball were a trio of seniors, Heather Fobian (Mapleton, UT/Health Sciences), Theresa Lischer (San Diego, CA/Deaf Studies) and Becky Moores (Denver, CO/Biology-Environment).
For women's cross country, senior Comfort Agara (Houston, TX/Biology-Pre-Med) and sophomore Marianne Gerry (Camarillo, CA/Family Studies) made the team.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at Cal State Northridge prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically) and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
