Ashlie Kite Named Associate Athletic Director
Cal State Northridge Senior Associate Athletic Director Janet Lucas announced today the appointment of Ashlie Kite to the post of Associate Athletic Director after the completion of a national search. Kite will begin her tenure on January 24, 2005. She replaces Rhonda Hyatt who left Cal State Northridge to become the Athletic Director at Santa Monica City College in August of 2004.
"I am extremely pleased to have an administrator of Ms. Kite's caliber become a part of the Department of Athletics at Cal State Northridge," Lucas said. "We are proud to have someone with her outstanding qualifications, knowledge and abilities become our Associate Athletic Director. Her exceptional integrity and work ethic will help provide the leadership and vision necessary for the continued development and success of the CSUN Athletic Program."
Kite will come to Cal State Northridge from James Madison University where she has served as the Director of Compliance since 1999. In that role, she has been responsible for the oversight and monitoring of the Athletic Department's compliance program for over 750 student-athletes competing in 28 varsity sports.
While overseeing the NCAA compliance program at JMU, Kite also coordinated the eligibility and financial aid processes for the university's student-athletes, and coordinated the athletics division's rules education program regarding issues. In addition to her administrative duties in compliance, she also served as the director of a variety of NCAA and conference championship events while at JMU.
At Cal State Northridge, Kite will be responsible for providing managerial guidance and supervision for selected sports programs and will also coordinate the Matadors' financial aid program for student-athletes. Additionally, she will oversee the quality and comprehensive nature of the compliance program and supervise a variety of the Athletic Department's support services such as sports medicine, the equipment room and strength and conditioning.
Kite arrived at JMU in 1990, where she worked for a year in the athletics division's equipment operation and served as a graduate assistant for two years. In 1993 she began assisting the associate athletic director with compliance-related activities, and assumed a full-time compliance assistant's position in 1996.
"It is a privilege to become the Associate Athletic Director at Cal State Northridge," Kite said. "This is an incredible opportunity, one which I eagerly anticipate working with a staff that prides itself on tradition while upholding the best interests of its student athletes, coaches, and sport programs. I look forward to becoming a member of the CSUN family as well as an integral part of Matador Athletics."
Kite is a native of Elkton, Va., and is a graduate of Spotswood High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in health, physical education and coaching from Eastern Mennonite and her master's in kinesiology with an athletics administration concentration from JMU in 1993.
