Position: Assistant Athletics Director for Annual Fund

Alex Ackles was named Assistant Athletics Director for Annual Fund on April 9, 2014, by Dr. Brandon Martin, CSUN’s Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
 
Ackles will be responsible for elevating CSUN’s Matador Excellence Fund, establishing the Letter Winner’s Club, revitalizing the Sport-Specific Booster Clubs, and managing special events for donor cultivation.
 
Ackles comes from Cal Poly Pomona where he served two years as Coordinator of Marketing, Game Management, Promotions and Development in the Broncos Athletic Department
 
“Alex bring a proven track record of success in Athletics Department, Marketing & Promotions, and Event management at Cal Poly Pomona,” said Dr. Martin. “Additionally, Alex has a wealth of experience working with professional baseball and soccer sport organizations.”
 
During the 2013-14 academic year at Cal Poly Pomona, Ackles was instrumental in increasing attendance at home basketball and baseball games while raising support for the Bronco track & field team. His success at creating fan excitement at CPP included the “Pack the Gym” event that brought an overflow crowd to a basketball game that raised campus and community support for Cal Poly Pomona Athletics. Ackles also served on the administrative teams that coordinated the athletic department's 75th anniversary celebration, and hosted the 2014 Division II Women's Basketball West Regional.  
 
Before arriving at Cal Poly Pomona, Ackles worked as the Sports Management Program Coordinator at Concordia University in Irvine. Among his many duties included the coordination of the California Coaches Conference that included developing budget, soliciting sponsors, acting as a point of contact for instructors, guest speakers and students along with coordinating classroom and facility space with other university departments.
 
In addition to his other duties at CUI, Ackles helped prospective students with the application and the admissions process. He also served as an advisor to students as they progressed through the program.
 
Ackles graduated from Eckerd College in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies while also earning a minor in Political Science.  
 
Ackles obtained his master’s degree in Higher Education from the University of Redlands in 2008. While at Redlands, Ackles served as a graduate assistant in athletic administration where he helped host the 2006 and 2007 SCIAC men’s and women’s soccer tournaments, and the 2008 SCIAC women’s and softball tournaments.  
 
Ackles served as the Athletics Director and physical education teacher at Santa Clara High School from July 2008 to June 2010. His responsibilities included department oversight, budget management, designing course curriculum and instructing all physical education classes.  
 
While working at the professional level, Alex directed all corporate sponsor sales, group ticket sales, and concession operations for four regional minor league sports teams.
