NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN women's golf team added another top five finish to its fall ledger as the Matadors finished in second place Tuesday at the SCU Colby Invitational at Silver Creek Valley C.C. in San Jose.
CSUN finished the three-round tournament with scores of 310-312-312 to finish behind only host Santa Clara (909).
"Having a young team meet a tough and demanding course, I thought it was a fair showing," said head coach Gina Umeck. "We weren't super satisfied with our performance, we know we still have some things to work on."
Cake Phuchanbanchob, tied for the lead after the first round, came in second Tuesday after posting a final round six-over 78. Phuchanbanchob, who posted her second straight top 10 finish, wound up with rounds of 74-74-78. Cesilie Hagen and Ysabel Tran also finished in the top six as Hagen took fifth (+17, 233) and Tran sixth (+18, 234). Hagen opened the final round tied for eighth but fired a three-over 75 to move into sole possession of fifth place.
"Cake had a great showing today, she was poised and hit her irons really well," Umeck said. "Cesilie has every reason to be proud of how she played today."
Senior Arinda Bhanaraksa tied for 14th at 26-over 242 after posting scores of 81-79-82 and Julie Ward, playing in her first collegiate tournament, was 16th at 27-over 243 after three consecutive rounds of 81.
Santa Clara's Ashley Noda posted a tournament score of two-over 218 to take individual medalist honors.
CSUN has one fall tournament remaining as the Matadors travel to San Luis Obispo for the Cal Poly Lady Mustang Oct. 24-25 at Cypress Ridge G.C.
