CSUN Hosts UC Davis In Big West Tournament

Matadors and Aggies Square off at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN Matadors (8-7-3, 4-4-2 Big West Conference) host UC Davis in a Big West Tournament match on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at Matador Soccer Field. The Matadors and Aggies will meet under the lights in the San Fernando Valley for a berth in the Big West Tournament Semifinals at UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, November 11. Eduard Cauich and Jose Avalos will call the action live and live stats will be available with links available at GoMatadors.com. Last week, CSUN posted a 2-1 victory over UC Riverside on Senior Day and then played to a scoreless, 110-minute draw at UC Irvine to wrap up the Big West South Division second seed in the Big West Tournament. On Senior Day, seniors Trevor Morley tied the match on a penalty kick and sophomore Papi Diouf headed home a throw in from Gabe Robinson for the winning goal in the 75th minute. On Halloween, Adam Hobbs made nine saves to earn his third Big West Defensive Player of the Week honors in the 2015 season.Â
This week, Morley became the third Matador in program history and the fourth overall to be named Big West Defensive Player of the Year. He also earned First Team All-Big West honors for the third-straight year. Fellow senior David Turcios also earned First Team All-Big West honors while seniors Adam Hobbs and Carlos Gonzalez earned Second Team All-Big West honors. Junior Patrick Hickman received Honorable Mention All-Big West honors for the second-straight year and Andrew Rizeq earned a spot on the Big West All-Freshman Team.Â
The Matadors and Aggies played to a 1-1 draw on Oct. 8. Sophomore Jeremy Degraffenreidt scored his first career goal as a Matador in the match while Hobbs made 10 saves in net to preserve the point for CSUN.Â

A Closer Look at UC Davis
The UC Davis Aggies enter Saturday's contest with an overall record of 7-9-3 and a 3-4-3 mark in Big West Conference action. The Aggies finished the year 0-3-2 in their last five matches, although three of those decision came against nationally ranked opponents.Â
Senior Lucas Mohageg leads the squad with seven goals, four assists and 18 points on the season. He earned First Team All-Big West honors for his work this season. Freshman Roy Boateng, who earned Honorable Mention All-Big West honors, finished the regular season with four goals, one assist and nine points. Senior Matt Wiesenfarth earned Second Team All-Big West honors after posting three goals, two assists and eight points while Ryan Gross, who also earned Second Team honors, finished with an identical three goals, two assists and eight points. UCD averages 14.5 shots per game and has taken 71 corner kicks in its 19 matches in 2015.Â
In net, Kris Schultz and Armando Quezada have each seen extensive time this season. Schultz has a 1.45 goals-against average, 36 saves and a .655 save percentage while Quezada has a 1.42 GAA, 27 saves and a .730 save percentage. The two have combined to produce three clean sheets this season and a .701 save percentage. The Aggies have conceded 29 goals this season and have surrendered the fewest goals among all Big West squads (136) since the start of the 2010 season. Dwayne Shaffer is in his 19th season as the head coach of the Aggies.
Matador Team Notes
CSUN checks in at No. 53 in the latest NCAA Division I RPI, which was released on Nov. 2 ... Hobbs leads the league in saves (81) and save percentage (.810) and has faced 100 shots on goal this season ... Hobbs has played the sixth-most minutes in goal among all Division I goalkeepers ... five freshmen have recorded an assist this season: Bradley Mulvey, Stuart Close, Jules Cailliau, Jumoke Hutton and Andrew Rizeq ... Dean Wright leads the Matadors with four assists on the season ... Wright had a pair of assists in CSUN victories over Saint Mary's and Sacramento State ... the Matadors set a new season high with 33 fouls at UC Irvine on Halloween ... CSUN is 7-6-2 when tied or trailing at halftime ... the Matadors are 3-1-1 when scoring the first goal of the match ... CSUN recorded the 400th win in program history with a 2-0 victory at Santa Clara on Sept. 20.Â
