Makekau-Whittaker is the third student-athlete to sign with CSUN women's volleyball during the early signing period.
A 6-0 setter from Hilo, Hawai'i, Makekau-Whittaker was a key member of the three-time Big Island Interscholastic Federation champions at Kamehameha Schools in Keaau, Hawai'i. A four-year starter at setter, she led the Warriors to league titles in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Kamehameha qualified for the state playoffs this season, the school's 11th consecutive berth in the postseason. Makekau-Whittaker was an All-BIIF selection in both 2013 and 2014 as well as being a National Honor Society member.
"Kamalu is a setter with length and a lot of versatility," said Stork. "She has a good understanding of systems and has played volleyball at a very high level for a long time. Kamalu has length as both a blocker and attacker which lends itself to our systems where setters get involved offensively. Her rhythm and set location are exceptional for someone her age."
Makekau-Whittaker joins Morgan Salone and Daniella Molinari who signed previously with the Matador women's volleyball team.
