NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (2-2) host its annual Radisson Hotel Chatsworth Thanksgiving Basketball Classic 2016Â this weekend at The Matadome. The Matadors welcome Detroit Mercy, No. 19 Michigan State and Delaware to the San Fernando Valley for a pair of games on both Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26. The Spartans and Blue Hens will start the tournament on Nov. 25 at 5 p.m. and will be followed by a CSUN-Detroit Mercy contest. Saturday's games start at 4 p.m. and No. 19 Michigan State will play at 4 p.m. to start the day due to travel arrangements. All four games will feature live stats and the two CSUN games will feature a live audio and live video broadcast with Mark Roberts calling all the action. Fans are also encouraged to check with the Matadors' official Twitter accounts (@GoMatadors, @CSUNCapeCrew and @_AlwaysFamily_) for updates throughout the weekend.
Last week, CSUN hit the road for the first time in 2016-17 and pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in program history. Trailing by 18 at halftime, the Matadors went on a 20-2 run over the final seven minutes of the fourth period to defeat Fresno State 61-57. Hayley Tanabe led CSUN with 14 points while Channon Fluker tied a career high with 19 rebounds as the Matadors posted their first victory over the Bulldogs since 1975.
Although they lost at No. 10 Stanford, the Matadors continued to see stellar play from the rookie Tanabe. She led the Matadors with a career-high 16 points and seven rebounds against the Cardinal. She is now second on the team in scoring at 10.8 ppg.
This week offers some tough challenges for the Matadors. The Titans are 2-2 on the season as well and are coming off a home victory over Kent State. Although they played in the 2012 Thanksgiving Classic at CSUN, the Matadors and Detroit Mercy have never met in women's basketball.
The following day will see CSUN face either the nationally ranked Spartans or a currently undefeated Blue Hens team. Despite a loss at Oregon on Nov. 22, the Spartans feature a talented line-up that figures to be of the best in the Big Ten Conference.
Delaware is 4-0 on the season after a victory over Princeton on Nov. 22. The Blue Hens have three players averaging in double-figures.
