Seniors Leslie Chang and Jessica Warren Receive Final Awards
NORTHRIDGE, CA ---
Five members of the CSUN women's tennis team were named 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes, the ITA announced recently. Seniors Leslie Chang and Jessica Warren, juniors Scout Shutter and Mari Taslagyan and freshman Skyla Alcon all earned a spot on the team for their outstanding work in the classroom. All members of the 2016 ITA All-Academic Teams and ITA Scholar-Athletes will receive a certificate to recognize the achievement.
"Academic success is paramount at CSUN as we prepare these young women to excel in life after college tennis," CSUN head coach Gary Victor said. "We are very proud of these five for maintaining such an outstanding balance between the demands of school work and tennis. For 2016-17, we are excited to see a lot of these young women perform in their senior and final season with the Matadors."
Chang wrapped up her CSUN career by receiving the award for a fourth-straight year. She graduated in Spring 2016 and will be attending graduate school at Mississippi State with an internship in the athletic department.
Taslagyan received the award for the third-straight year while Warren and Shutter each earned the honors for a second time in their respective careers. Alcon received the award for the first time in her Matador career and CSUN now has had 26 ITA Scholar-Athletes since 2013.Â
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman thorough senior year). More than 4,200 scholar-athletes along with over 700 all-academic teams were recognized across all divisions.
