Matadors Up a Spot to Ninth at Hobble Creek Classic

The Matadors were 11th after an opening round 312 but moved up in each of the final two rounds, posting a team score of 305 each round.
Sophomore Ysabel Tran was CSUN's leading scorer from start to finish. Tran opened with a four-over 75 on Monday morning, backing it up with another 75 in the afternoon. The sophomore closed with a final round six-over 77 to slip from 13th into a tie for 18th at 14-over 227.
Freshman Alice Duan had a solid opening tournament to her Matador career as she tied for 29th at 16-over 229. Duan opened with back-to-back rounds of 76 on Monday before closing with a six-over 77 on Tuesday. Junior Shenna DeLeon finished one shot behind Duan as rounds of 79-76-75 left her tied for 32nd at 17-over 230. DeLeon's 75 on Tuesday was CSUN's low on Tuesday.
Cake Phuchanbanchob posted a final round five-over 76 Tuesday to move up 11 spots from 55th into a tie for 44th at 23-over 236. Phuchanbanchob wound up posting scores of 82-78-76. Chaiwon Youn rounded out the Matador scoring as she tied for 75th at 43-over 256 with rounds of 85-84-87.
Sam Houston State (898) fired a final round 300 to share the team title with Cal Poly (898) while BYU's Anna Kennedy won individual medalist honors with a score of two-over 215.
CSUN returns to action Oct. 1-2 as the Matadors travel to Palm Desert for the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate at The Classic Club.
