CSUN Athletics Unveils Baseball Stadium Renovation Project

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- CSUN Athletics unveiled the new Baseball Stadium Renovation Project on Wednesday, an ambitious facility project that aims to upgrade the Matadors' home ballpark into one of the finest on the West Coast.
The project's proposed features include a new entryway honoring Matador Baseball history, an expanded hitting facility, a state of the art team building, chair back seating, some premium donor areas, new restrooms and concessions, and children's play area and grass berm seating. HOK, the global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm, partnered with CSUN to produce the proposed renovation project concept.
"This renovation project will allow us to continue the momentum generated from Irv Zakheim's generous lead gift. We are committed to providing our student-athletes with an exceptional facility, and with the partnership of alumni and other supporters like Irv, we can accelerate the success of our baseball program," said CSUN Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon E. Martin. The total cost of the renovation project is estimated at $15 million.Â
The project calls for CSUN to continue to display some unique and timeless features of the previous ballpark. In addition, the proposed entryway would be visible from the heart of CSUN's campus.Â
"This day has been coming for a long time. Players like Adam Kennedy, Kenny Kendrena and Robert Fick helped make CSUN Baseball a timeless force. The impact goes beyond those All-Americans. Coaches like Bob Hiegert and Mike Batesole, the rich fabric of baseball in the San Fernando Valley, and our current and future players deserve this," said CSUN Head Coach Greg Moore.
The project calls for excellent standing room views of the field from a plaza surrounding the home plate area. CSUN's home field has hosted over 180,000 fans in its history. Â
