NORTHRIDGE, CA---
CSUN Men's Basketball head coach Reggie Theus has announced the hiring of Will Kimble and Marvin Adams as assistant coaches for the 2017-18 season.
"I'm really happy to have Will and Marvin join our staff," said Theus. "I think they bring a dynamic to our staff that will be very helpful from a teaching and recruiting standpoint. I'm impressed with the energy they've brought to our program.
"I've really wanted to have a big man's coach for a while. Will is somebody who played college basketball and is 6-foot-9, and can really stand next to the guys. He brings a presence to the team. With his background, his ability to teach individual instruction and his familiarity with our conference, he is going to be really helpful," continued Theus. "Marvin comes from a perennial power in the Mountain West. He is going to be great with workouts and relating to the guys because he is a young coach. In his previous job, he did a multitude of things so he'll have an opportunity to mix in coaching with the things he already knows how to do. Marvin brings an energy level, and his ability to recruit has been impressive so far."
With over a decade of coaching experience, Kimble spent last season as an assistant coach with UC Riverside. He has also coached at the collegiate level with Pepperdine and Citrus College.
"It's a great opportunity to join an athletics program that's heading in the right direction," said Kimble. "I look forward to contributing by using my experience from playing basketball and coaching in different programs to guide our student-athletes, and help them earn a college degree. Looking forward to working and competing with the returning, and incoming players. I'm just really excited to be a Matador."
Kimble began coaching at Bethel Temple High in El Paso, TX, as the team's head varsity coach in 2006-07. In his only season with the team, Kimble led the program to the Texas Christian Athletic finals. A year later, Kimble became the assistant coach at Citrus College in Glendora, CA and guided the team to a near-perfect 35-1 record along with its first-ever junior college state title in 2007-08.
A Pepperdine alum, Kimble worked as an assistant coach with the Waves from 2008-2011 and served as an associate head coach at Cathedral High School in Los Angeles for five seasons. Under his tutelage, the Phantoms won the Camino Del Rey League Championship in 2013-14 as well as secured an appearance in the CIF Division III State Championship finals in 2014-15.
Prior to coaching, Kimble played two seasons at Pepperdine and helped the Waves win the 2000-01 West Coast Conference championship and earn a trip to the National Invitational Tournament. The next season, Kimble averaged a career-high 5.4 points in 15.7 minutes as the Waves advanced to the 2002 NCAA Tournament. With the Waves, Kimble was awarded the inaugural Will Kimble Award for best representing the values of the university.
After spending time as the Waves' student assistant in 2003-04, Kimble transferred to the University of Texas at El Paso where he concluded his collegiate career. Kimble helped UTEP advance to the 2005 NCAA Tournament and the 2006 NIT in his final collegiate season.
Kimble received his degree in advertising from Pepperdine in 2004 and his master's in education from UTEP in 2006.
Adams comes to CSUN after spending the last two seasons at San Diego State as the team's graduate assistant coach.
"I'm an L.A. guy, born and raised in the Valley so coming to CSUN is home," said Adams. "Along with being around family and friends, I'm extremely excited to be here with Coach Theus and join his staff. Leaving San Diego State, I learned a lot from Coach [Steve] Fisher but I'm happy to be here and be a part of the program. I'm eager to get to the grind with the recruiting and the summer workouts."
No stranger to the Southern California basketball scene, Adams served as an assistant coach with Village Christian School in Sun Valley from 2012-2015. During his tenure with the Crusaders, Village Christian posted a stellar 83-12 record and won back-to-back CIF Southern Section championships in 2014 and 2015.
Adams has also worked at Adidas Nation in Los Angeles from 2013-2015. Along with the management of the competition schedule, Adams also assisted in the recruitment of international athletes from countries such as France, Africa, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Russia, Serbia and Australia to participate in the event.
Before transitioning into coaching, Adams played collegiate basketball at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. While with the Blue Bears, Adams helped the team reach the conference championship for the first time in school history.
Adams earned a degree in business administration in 2012 from Livingstone University. He will also be receiving his master's degree from San Diego State University this summer.
