Junior forward Sagi Lev-Ari is continuing right where he left off as the 2013 men's soccer campaign is getting underway.
In Sunday's victory over the Memphis Tigers, Lev-Ari helped the Matadors win the Ryan Rossi Memorial Tournament Championship. He scored the first hat trick for Cal State Northridge since Willie Sims did it in 2005 and is tied for the lead in the Big West Conference with three goals in two matches.
Lev-Ari got things started for the Matadors with a goal in the 50th minute to tie the match at 1-1. He touched home a cross from Edwin Rivas at the right post while CSUN was playing with a man advantage. His second goal came just seven minutes later as he curled a shot into the right side of the goal while his momentum was carrying him the other way in the box. Lev-Ari completed the hat trick in the 72nd minute after punching home a shot from inside the area. He received a through ball from Steven Manios in the box and slotted a low shot past the Memphis goalkeeper.
Lev-Ari, a Second Team All-Big West Conference selection in 2012, has 18 career goals and 36 points in 24 matches played.
