Matadors Sign Two to National Letters of Intent

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –

Two high school position players have signed national letters of intent to play baseball at Cal State Northridge, head coach Matt Curtis announced Tuesday. Both Dylan Alexander and AB Blanchet will join the Matadors in the fall of 2013 and be ready to compete during the 2014 season.

"We are pleased to welcome two talented recruits to our program. We had limited, but very specific, needs in the 2013 recruiting class," said Curtis. "We feel that we have been successful in building our depth of talent through the large classes in 2011 and 2012.

Alexander is a catcher at Simi Valley High School and has been a starter for the team since his sophomore year. As a junior, he was selected to the California Baseball Coaches Association South All Star Team.

"We believe that we have added a premier catcher from right in our own backyard. Dylan is an exceptional athlete with a strong throwing arm and quick release behind the plate," said Curtis. "He projects as a gap to gap hitter who should be able to drive in runs, and we know that the program at Simi Valley will have him prepared for this level."

Alexander is a two-time All-Marmonte League selection and was named to the First Team All-Ventura County as a sophomore and junior. In 2012 he had a .325 batting average with eight doubles and a home run. He also had a .994 fielding percentage and was invited to the Milwaukee Brewers Area Code tryout.

Blanchet played for the Tampa Bay Rays scout team and also attended the Milwaukee Brewers Area Code tryout. As a junior, he was named Team MVP as an infielder at Irvine High School.

"AB really met one of our key needs as a left-handed hitter with the potential to hit for power and average at the Division-I level," said Curtis. "AB projects as a corner infielder who will bring some punch to the middle of our batting order."

Last season, Blanchet led his team in walks (14), stolen bases (9), triples (5) and on base percentage (.404).
