Former CSUN AD Bob Hiegert to be Honored at First Pitch Dinner

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –

Former Cal State Northridge Athletics Director and Baseball Coach Bob Hiegert will be honored by the baseball program at its First Pitch Dinner. The dinner, which is part of the program's inaugural Golf Tournament, will take place on Friday, February 8.

Hiegert was a four-year starter for the Cal State Northridge baseball team, then known as San Fernando Valley State College, and was named the Matadors' Athlete of the Year in 1963. He earned his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1964 and his master's in 1966.

Following his graduation and a brief stint in the Los Angeles Angels' organization, Hiegert returned to SFVSC as the head baseball coach in 1965. In his 18-year tenure with the program, he led the Matadors to a 609-411-9 (.596) record, two NCAA Division II National Championships (1970, 1984), five regional titles, 11 postseason berths and six California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) crowns.

Hiegert was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Hall of Fame in 1989 and the Cal State Northridge Hall of Fame in 1999.

Hiegert was named the Men's Athletic Director at CSUN in 1978 and assumed the role of Director of Athletics for both men's and women's sports from 1988-95. During that time, he administered the transition of Cal State Northridge athletics from Division II to Division I status.

While serving as AD at Northridge, the Matadors won 25 Division II National Championships and 49 conference titles between 1978 and 1990. During the department's first five years at the Division I level, the men's volleyball team (1993) and softball team (1994) competed for national championships.

Hiegert also served as an associate professor of kinesiology at CSUN from 1995-98.

Limited spots are still available for both the CSUN Baseball Golf Tournament and First Pitch Dinner. For more information, please contact Josh Pratt at josh.pratt@csun.edu.
