NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
The Cal State Northridge Baseball program kicks off an exciting weekend of fall ball by hosting The Gatorade Games at Matador Field. Game 1 is Friday, Oct. 11, at 3:00 pm and Game 2 is set for Saturday, Oct. 12, at 12:00 pm, as Team AOEP and Team DCBA will compete against each other.
Now this isn't just your ordinary series. There is more on the line than winning and losing. Bragging rights don't come close to what the victor shall earn. The more competitive team will earn something far more valuable, something the other team wants so badly they can almost taste it. May each winning young man stand up tall with their prized ice cold Gatorade in their right hand. May the best team be victorious.
Game 1 Recap
Game 1 ended with Team AOEP on top, taking care of Team DCBA by a score of 11-4. Both teams gave great effort and continued to hustle from start to finish.
Team AOEP was patient at the plate and made the pitchers for Team DCBA really work for every out. Team AOEP also did a great job of executing the bunt game and capitalizing on opportunities with runners on base by driving them in. Along with great execution of the bunt game, Team AOEP was able to drive in four runs with two outs to extend a couple of innings. One inning was extended with the great hustle of Brett Balkan, who was able to beat out a groundball with two outs. On the mound for Team AOEP, Brandon Warner set the tone from the start by attacking on every pitch and not allowing Team DCBA to gain any momentum. The bullpen did a great job of minimizing big innings as well.
It didn't start off well for Team DCBA, giving up three runs in the first inning. Team DCBA struggled to really get anything going on offense throughout the game, however defensively the team did well. Ryan Raslowsky made a great diving play to take a hit away from Team AOEP, which helped minimize a potential big inning. Overall, the bullpen struggled with command and fell behind in counts, allowing the offense for Team DCBA to be in control at the plate.
Game 2 is set for 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013.
