CSUN Baseball Announces Golf Classic and Alumni Weekend
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –
The Cal State Northridge baseball program will once again hold its annual Bob Hiegert Golf Classic and Alumni Weekend, first-year head coach Greg Moore announced. The weekend will begin with the golf classic on Friday, Jan. 31, followed by the annual alumni game and social on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014.
The golf classic has been renamed to honor legendary CSUN baseball player, coach and former Athletics Director Bob Hiegert. Hiegert led the Matadors to a pair of NCAA Division II National Championships (1970, 1984) in his 18 years at the helm of the baseball program.
"We renamed the Golf Tournament after Coach Hiegert to honor and thank a man who helped grow CSUN Athletics and mentored many young athletes," said Moore. "From sitting with Lyman Bostock and his mom before he signed his professional contract to happily reminiscing with his former players a few years ago, there are many stories. His impact stretches decades."
The Bob Hiegert Golf Classic will kick off the festivities at Knollwood Country Club in Granada Hills, Calif., with a driving range and putting contest at 10 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 11 a.m. Following the round of golf a social hour, silent auction and dinner will be held.
Packages are available for those that would like to support the event as a tee sponsor in addition to golfers. Participants may also purchase separate dinner plates for non-golfers that wish to attend. Golfers may register for $150, which includes green and cart fees, range balls, a driving range cart, on-course lunch and dinner afterward. Foursomes can register together for a discounted fee of $550.
Tee sponsors will receive a sign on one of the tee boxes with the sponsor's name or company information. To ensure a lighthearted and relaxing round of golf, mulligans may be purchased for use throughout the day. Registration closes on Monday, Jan. 27.
On Saturday, Northridge Baseball Alumni will return to Matador Field to take on the 2014 Matadors in a scrimmage that is open to the public. Check-in will take place at 11 a.m. with the game starting at 1 p.m. More information about the social that will be held for alumni following the game will be distributed when it becomes available.
