NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
Fresh off the heels of being named to the California Collegiate League All-Star Team, CSUN baseball incoming infielder Yusuke Akitoshi has another honor to write home about. The junior transfer, who will join the Matadors for the 2014-15 academic year, was recently chosen as a 2014 ABCA/Rawlings Pacific Association Division All-American after a successful season at Skagit Valley College in Mt. Vernon, Wash.
As a sophomore shortstop Akitoshi led the Fighting Cardinal with a .362 batting average in 36 games last season, all while using a wood bat. Seventeen of his 42 hits on the year went for extra bases, including 11 doubles, two triples and four home runs. In addition, Akitoshi led the team with 19 walks drawn and 29 runs batted in.
During the Northwest Athletics Conference season, Akitoshi led the squad with a .348 average and had six doubles, two triples, a home run and 14 runs batted in. He is currently competing for the Conejo Oaks in the CCL this summer and is hitting .375 with a double, triple and four RBIs in 10 games.
