Matthew Moreno finished his inaugural season with Cal State Northridge with a .263 batting average in 21 games (10 starts), coming into the starting lineup late in the campaign. He recorded one double and four RBI and also tallied a stolen base and three sacrifice hits for the Matadors. Moreno made his debut for the program as a defensive replacement vs. Seattle University (2/19 Gm. 2), came in to replace the catcher against Valparaiso (2/26), and went 0-for-1 against Lamar at the YMBL Cardinal Classic (3/4). He came on as a defensive substitute at catcher against LMU (3/26), pinch-hit and played catcher at Bakersfield (4/9), and was brought in as a defensive sub at catcher and had one at-bat against Cal Poly (4/16). Moreno earned his first hit at CSUN in a 1-for-3 day with a run scored against Pacific (4/21) and made his first start of the year the next day at third base. He went 2-for-4 in the opener vs. UC Riverside (5/13) and brought in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th with a safety squeeze in the finale (5/15). He went 1-for-2 at Long Beach State as the starting third baseman (5/21) and had three hits in the series opener against Cal State Fullerton (5/27) and added two RBI in the regular season finale (5/29).
Matthew Moreno played both second and third base for the Brahmas from 2009-10. He was named team captain in 2010 on Coach Bushart's team that went 25-13 and earned his associate's degree from Pierce College in 2010.
CHATSWORTH HIGH SCHOOL
Moreno played both infield and outfield on a Chancellor squad that went 109-16 while he was on campus. He earned First Team All-City honors in 2008 after captaining the team to their second straight City Championship under Coach Meusborn. Moreno was also named team MVP and earned First Team West Valley League accolades after his freshman campaign in 2005.
