Sam Peraza joins the coaching staff at Cal State Northridge after five seasons as the head assistant coach at Cal State Los Angeles. While at CSULA, Peraza helped the team to four winning seasons and coached two players that won conference pitcher of the year awards.

In addition to his duties as the team’s Recruiting Coordinator, Peraza also assisted with all game planning, film, administration and travel needs for the Golden Eagles.

While at Cal State L.A. Peraza also served as the head coach of the So Cal Fire in 2008, a summer league team that finished sixth out of 64 teams in the National Baseball Congress Championship Tournament. Of the players on his team, seven went on to be drafted in the first 20 rounds of the Major League Baseball Draft.

Prior to working at Cal State L.A. Peraza spent a season as the head assistant coach at Eastern Oklahoma State College. During the 2007 season, Peraza handled all aspects of recruiting and also directed a pitching staff that produced the conference pitcher of the year.

Peraza’s coaching career began at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif., where he had five players earn postseason recognition, including a pair of pitchers named to the All-Conference First Team. He has also spent time as a coach at Rio Hondo Community College and with the Peninsula Oilers of the Alaska Summer League.

As a player, Peraza appears in the record books for career saves and appearances at El Camino College. He is also a graduate of San Diego State University where he pitched out of the bullpen for the Aztecs as a senior.
