Loyola Marymount Visits Matador Field Tuesday Afternoon

Feb. 23, 2009

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -

After the Pepperdine Waves stole two potential victories away from the Matadors this past weekend with their walk-off home runs in both Friday's and Sunday's game, the Cal State Northridge Baseball team (1-2) utilized their off day on Monday to push the events of the past weekend behind them in preparation for their upcoming game against the Loyola Marymount Lions (3-1).

LMU will return to Matador Field to face Northridge Tuesday afternoon, first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Junior transfer Nate Longpre (0-0, 0.00) will make his first career start on the mound as a Matador and face freshman right-hander Ramiro Carreon.

Last season, Northridge broke the Lion's three-game winning streak against CSUN with an overwhelming 10-3 victory at Matador Field, and look to replicate their results and create a winning streak of their own against their West Coast Conference rivals.

After going 4-9 with two doubles and one home run in the three games against Pepperdine last weekend, sophomore Ryan Pineda will look to continue his outstanding start to the 2009 season in front of his home crowd.

Pineda was not the only Matador who caught the attention of the Waves last weekend as centerfielder Jeff Pruitt has already collected two stolen bases, almost half of his total from the previous season (5).

Admission is free to all CSUN students with a valid I.D., those fans who cannot attend Tuesday's game can either follow the action online with GameTracker, a service provided by Cal State Northridge and CSTV that allows fans to access up-to-the-minute information and play-by-play results from the comforts of their own home or office.

Tomorrow will also mark the debut of radio broadcaster Dave Caldwell, the current voice of the Cal State Northridge Women's Basketball team, as he will broadcast live from Matador Field for the first time this season. Caldwell will broadcast a selected number of games throughout the season, with Tamer Tartir, a senior at Cal State Northridge, also participating as a member of the Matador baseball broadcasting team. Visit the schedule/results section of either GoMatadors.com or the Matador Baseball homepage to listen or access GameTracker for tomorrow's match-up
