NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - After battling the elements and the Connecticut Huskies last weekend, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (5-5) will return to Matador Field Wednesday afternoon to face the #10-ranked East Carolina Pirates in a one-off contest that will begin at 2 p.m.
Matador lefty Bennett Parry (0-0, 13.50) and Pirate right-hander Shawn Armstrong (0-0, 0.00) are Wednesday's scheduled starters for the first game ever played between the two teams.
After defeating the Connecticut Huskies 5-3 in the finale of their four-game series Monday afternoon, Northridge will close out their six-game homestand against their second ranked opponent this season.
Earlier in the season, CSUN traveled to San Diego to face the #18th-ranked Toreros, a game the Matadors won decisively by a score of 7-1.
Coming off three consecutive victories over Illinois, West Virginia, and Western Carolina 7-5, 6-3, and 5-4 respectively in the 7th Annual Keith LeClair Classic, the Pirates will play five of their next six home games on the road.
Beginning with Wednesday's game at Northridge, ECU will travel to Malibu for a three-game series against the Pepperdine Waves before returning to North Carolina.
Looking to end the Pirates' five-game winning streak will be freshman Bennett Parry who will make his first career start as a Matador, coming off the heels of his first career appearance at UCLA.
