Matadors to Hook Up With UCLA in Tuesday Evening Action
April 15, 2008
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The action kicks off with the continuation of a previously suspended game which begins at 4:30 p.m. The regularly-scheduled game begins at 6 p.m., unless the initial game goes later than 5:30.
The game was started on February 26th and was halted due to darkness in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Matadors trailing 22-2.
Appropriately, the game will be finished at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The original match-up was scheduled to be played on UCLA's home turf before a failure in the venue's new drainage system was revealed in a series of storms, making the playing surface unplayable.
The game was called on Tuesday when the encroaching darkness became a danger to the players and fans. The teams had played for nearly four hours when umpires stepped in and suspended the action.
The decision was made to continue the game rather than to finalize the outcome. NCAA rules stipulate that a game must be completed unless an arrangement is made before the game to allow the contest to be truncated for any reason.
Per NCAA guidelines, the game has been omitted from the Matadors' statistics until the contest's completion.
