Matador Baseball/Softball Summer Recap

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
While may of their peers were busy relaxing during their three month break, a number of student-athletes chose to hone their skills as members of a number of summer baseball and softball teams across the nation. Below is a summary of their successes in this summer's final baseball/softball report.
Left-Handed Pitcher, USSSA Pride - National Pro Fastpitch
Softball Assistant Coach Fennell provided outstanding relief from the bullpen for the Pride, finishing with a 1-1 record and one complete game. In her 17.2 innings pitched, Fennell struckout seven batters, while only allowing nine walks.
Right-Handed Pitcher, Humboldt Crabs - West Coast League
The sophomore pitcher was named the Horizon Air Summer Series Pitcher of the Year for his performance on the mound for the Humboldt Crabs this summer and was also one of two Crabs named to the fifteen-member Horizon Air First Team.
Helping his team earn the inaugural West Coast League (WCL) Tri-State title, DeBoo pitched a total of 45.1 innings in the 16 games he appeared in, finished with an unblemished 9-0 record, and possessed a miniscule 0.60 ERA, the lowest average of any pitcher in the WCL. DeBoo allowed four runs to his opposition throughout the entire summer, struckout 27 batters, walked only six batters, and earned two saves during his time in Humboldt.
Middle Infielder, California Mariners - Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association
As a member of the Western Regional Stan Musial Division Champions, DeMarco split his time in the field at second base, third base, and shortstop, compiling a .996 fielding average in the process. At the plate, DeMarco batted .362 with nine doubles and six triples.
Right-Handed Pitcher, Palm Springs Power - Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association
In addition to his appearance as a member of the Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association All-Star team where Longpre pitched one inning, struck out two batters to eradicate a potential Pacific West scoring opportunity to earn the win, Longpre's summer was just as successful as a member of the Power pitching staff.
For the season, Longpre was the only Power pitcher to finish with a 0.00 ERA (min. thre einnings pitched), finished with a perfect 3-0 record, and led the team with four saves. In his 22 games and 30 innings pitched, Longpre struckout 33 batters, allowed only 13 hits and seven walks.
Jacob Peterson
Pitcher/First Baseman, San Luis Obispo Blues - Sierra Baseball League
Peterson appeared in six games, started on one occasion, and finished with a total of nine innings pitched. Finishing with a 2-0 record and an ERA of 0.00, Peterson allowed only six walks, struckout nine batters, and held his opponents to a miniscule batting average of .103.
Second Baseman, Wareham Gatemen - Cape Cod League
Pineda finished the summer 19 hits, 12 runs, fine doubles, ten walks, eight RBI's, five doubles, two stolen bases and a .170 batting average. Pineda's five doubles and 12 runs scored ranks him tied for third-highest marks in each category amongst his teammates.
Second Baseman, Sedalia Bombers - M.I.N.K League
On July 14, the Bombers had a two game sweep against Nevada at Liberty Stadium, which left the two teams tied for first in the MINK South Division. On July 16, the Bombers won their double header against the MINK North leader, Chillicothe, which preserved their spot atop the standings. As the week progressed, Nevada lost to Joplin, while the Bombers split their double header with Beatrice to clinch the MINK South Division Championship. Reed finished the regular season third on his team with a .343 batting average, 16 RBI's, and ten stolen bases.
Outfielder, Edenton Steamers - Coastal Plain League
Swanson lead his team with a .325 batting average, 39 hits, and 8 doubles. Due to his successful season, the Coastal Plain League announced Billy Swanson to their American All-Star Team.
Robert Vickers
Shortstop, San Luis Obispo Rattlers - California Collegiate League
For the season Vickers started 25 of the 26 games he participated in, hit. 157, and finished with a .286 on-base percentage. Vickers collected 14 hits, scored 12 times, and drew the third-highest number of walks on the team with 16. Defensively, Vickers held a .965 fielding percentage, with 35 putouts, 48 assists and only committed three errors all season.
