Cal State Northridge Records 72-61 victory over Cal State Los Angeles
Northridge, Calif. – Cal State Northridge outscored Cal State Los Angeles, 12-1, in the final 4:25 of the game en route to a 72-61 victory over the Golden Eagles in a men's basketball exhibition game Sunday afternoon at The Matadome.
With the score tied 60-60, CSUN's Allan Guei stole a CSLA pass and raced nearly the full court for a layup that gave the Matadors a 62-60 lead.
A Stephen Maxwell layup at the 2:23 mark, and a thunderous dunk by Stephan Hicks 14 seconds later gave the Matadors a 66-60 lead.
The six-point CSUN margin continued to grew to nine points, 70-61, with 1:18 to play. Another dunk by Hicks with 15 seconds remaining on the clock gave Cal State Northridge its final margin of victory, a 72-61 decision.
Maxwell led the Matador attack with 19 points and ten rebounds. Maxwell hit 9-of-15 shots from the floor. Hicks added 15 points and eight rebounds while Josh Greene added ten points (7-for-7 from the free throw line).
Cal State Northridge outrebounded the Golden Eagles, 54-38, and held the visitors to .359 shooting (23-for-64).
The Matadors shot .338 (23-for-68) from the floor. Cal State Northridge hit 22-of-25 free throws for 88 percent.
Cal State Northridge opens it 2012-13 season against Pepperdine on Friday, November 9, at 7:30 pm.
