The physical and mental endurance of the Cal State Northridge basketball team will be put to the test when the Matadors play four games in four days at the NUCDF Challenge (Nov. 15-18) at the University of San Diego ... During the previous 54-year history of Matador basketball, CSUN has played four games in four straight days, only ONCE ... That took place during the 2003-24 season when the Matadors played Cal State Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara, Utah State and Pacific at the Big West Tournament (March 10-13, 2004) in Anaheim, Ca. ... CSUN will play USD on Nov. 15 (7:00 p.m.) followed by games against Siena (Nov. 16, 4:00 pm), Tulsa (Nov. 17, 5:00 pm) and Northern Kentucky (Nov. 18, 3:30 pm) ... All games will be played at the Jenny Craig Pavilion (5,100) on the USD campus ... The Matadors are 2-0, averarging 88.5 ppg, averaging 43.0 rebounds per game, have collected 24 steals, dished out 38 assists, and hitting .833 (40-for-48) from the free throw line ... Cal State Northridge staged a huge rally in the final 13:17 of the second half in its season opening game to post a 81-75 victory over Pepperdine (11/9/12) ... Down 54-41 with 13:17 left on the clock, the Matadors outscored the Waves, 23-9, to take a 64-63 lead with 5:06 remaining ... The lead gradually increased to as many as eight points, 75-67, at the 1:09 mark ... In the second half, Cal State Northridge shot 52 percent (13-for-25) from the floor, and collected 20-of-21 free throw shots for .952 ... CSUN outscored Pepperdine, 48-37, in the second half after being down, 38-33, at halftime ... In its second game against Eastern Washington (11/12/12), CSUN produced another strong second half surge ... The 55th season of Cal State Northridge basketball promises to be just as competitive and exciting as the previous 54 years ... Three Pac-12 Conference teams (UCLA, Arizona State, Utah), a game at Brigham Young (BYU), and the addition of Hawai'i to the Big West Conference calendar are just a few of the highly competitive games that are on the 2012-13 docket ... Thirteen home games will be played at The Matadome ... The Matadome, home to the Cal State Northridge men's and women's basketball programs, has undergone significant renovations since the conclusion of the 2011-12 campaign ... A new floor, air conditioning, and visual upgrades completed this past summer have given the Matadome its first siginificant makeover in a decade ... Last season, new baskets and shot clocks were installed for basketball games as well as new press row tables, video display boards, a scoreboard above center court, and wall graphics ... With a brand new floor and a redesigned court, the Matadome received a dramatic overhaul just in time for the 51st anniversary of the first home game played in the facility this November ... Fans will notice wall graphics on the east end of the Matadome commemorating Cal State Northridge's post-season successes and a mural of fans cheering on the Matadors ... The 2013 Big West Tournament will be third year the event has been hosted by the Honda Center in Anaheim ... The 2012 tournament saw a 23 percent increase in attendance from the previous year ... The Big West Tournament is the oldest NCAA Division I post-season basketball tournament in the West, dating back to 1976 when the conference was known as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association ...
