CSUN Records 93-89 Overtime Victory Over UC Riverside

Northridge, Calif. – Stephen Maxwell recorded a team-high 24 points including eight points in overtime to help lift Cal State Northridge to a 93-89 victory over UC Riverside in a Big West Conference game on Thursday night at the Matadome.

Maxwell scored eight of his 24 points in overtime. Maxwell collected six straight points in the overtime, and added sugar to the win with a dunk with two seconds to play to secure CSUN's eleventh win of the season.   

In addition to the 24 points, Maxwell added 13 rebounds, the eleventh time this season Maxwell has recorded a double-double. Maxwell now has 25 double-doubles in his three-year Matador career.

Maxwell added three assists and three steals.

Four other Matador players scored in double figures. Josh Greene scored 22 points followed by Stephan Hicks with 13 points, and eleven points apiece by Landon Drew and Aaron Parks.

Hicks also had eight rebounds.

Cal State Northridge shot .508 (32-for-63) from the floor.

The lead changed 13 times in the game while the scored was tied nine times.

CSUN's biggest lead of the game was eight points, 10-2, with 17:12 left in the first half. The Highlanders biggest lead was nine points (68-59) with 9:10 remaining in the game.  

UC Riverside shot .720 (18-for-25) from the floor, but the Matador defense held the Highlanders to only .348 (8-for-23) in the second half.

"We weathered a great shooting performance by UC Riverside in the first half," said Matador head coach Reggie Theus. "But I felt comfortable with the fact that we were only down six points (49-43) at halftime despite their hot shooting. Our guys gutted it out (in the second half). Tonight we reached down and made plays down the stretch."

Josh Greene has hit 27 straight free throws over the last six games … Greene was 6-for-6 against UC Riverside … Greene set the school record with 33 straight last season … CSUN will leave campus at 6:00 am on Friday to travel to Honolulu to prepare for Saturday night's game at the University of Hawaii.
