NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –
The CSUN men's basketball program, led by second-year head coach Reggie Theus and All-Big West honorees Stephen Maxwell and Stephan Hicks, has been chosen to compete in the 2014 EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Matadors will compete in the Opening and Regional rounds of the tournament throughout November.
"We are excited and proud to be competing in the historic Maui Invitational," said CSUN Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Brandon E. Martin. "This is a prestigious event and we look forward to representing CSUN well."
CSUN will open the event with a road game at San Diego State on Friday, Nov. 14 at Viejas Arena in San Diego. From there the Matadors will head to Tucson, Ariz. to face the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday, Nov. 16. Both the Aztecs and Wildcats participated in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Following the Opening Games portion of the Maui Invitational, the Matadors will join three other teams in a two-day event at Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock, Ark. The Regional Games will be hosted by UALR and will also feature Samford and Missouri-Kansas City.
CSUN will square off against Samford on Saturday, Nov. 22 and will face either UALR or UMKC the next day to conclude their involvement in the Maui Invitational. Game times and television schedules for the Matadors' four games during the event have yet to be determined.
The Matadors will play an exhibition at The Matadome against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Nov. 8 before the start of the regular season. Matador Madness, CSUN's annual tipoff event for men's and women's basketball, is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 3.
