Jay Morris, who served two seasons (2008-09, 2009-10) as Director of Basketball Operations at Long Beach State, was named an assistant coach at Cal State Northridge on June 22, 2010.

While at Long Beach State, Morris' responsibilities included all day-to-day operations of the program, including team travel, film exchange and directing all basketball camps and clinics. Morris also served as the strength and conditioning coach for the men's basketball program. In 2008, the team lost in the semi finals of the Big West Tournament to University of Pacific. In 2009 Jay was a part of a staff at Long Beach State that put together the 10th ranked mid-major recruiting class rated by ESPN.com. In that year they made it to the Big West Conference Championship but came up a little short by a score of 69-64 to eventual NCAA Tournament team, UC Santa Barbara. During his time at Long Beach State he worked with back-to-back Big West Player of the Year and current NBA star Casper Ware.

Before being hired at Long Beach State, Morris served as an assistant coach and strength coach at Westchester High School in 2007-08. That year the Comets advanced to the semifinals of the Los Angeles City Championships and went to the second round of the state tournament.

Prior to coaching, Morris was a personal trainer and founder of DREAM, where he focused on training high school, collegiate and professional athletes.  He did some of his best work as a trainer with NBA players Trevor Ariza and Jason Hart.  Jay also worked with high school phenom Shea Cotton and two-time NBDL Champion, Tony Bland.

Since entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Morris has worked with the NABC. Morris has been a staff member on the sidelines for two NABC Reese College All-Star games held at the NCAA Final Four.  He has had the pleasure of meeting and working with legendary coaches Billy Tubbs, who was well known for his time as the Head Coach at University of Oklahoma, and Bill Hodges, who coached Larry Bird at Indiana State University.

Morris was a standout basketball and football star at Westchester High School in Los Angeles, CA. In 1998, Morris gained all-league and all-city honors as a quarterback. He played one year of college basketball at Citrus College before transferring to Cal Lutheran. Morris played two years of football as a cornerback and punt returner. He then played one year (2004) for the Bakersfield Blitz of the Arena Football League.

Morris gained his degree in Kinesiology from Cal State Dominguez Hills in 2010 and is currently working on a Masters Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration at Concordia University.

Jay and his wife, Yavonna, reside in Northridge.
