Davis, Ca. - UC Davis played perhaps its best game of the 2010-11 season to post a 78-66 victory over visiting Cal State Northridge in a Big West Conference men's basketball game on Thursday night at The Pavilion.
Ryan Spykens scored a career high 22 points, while Eddie Miller added 21 points to pace the Aggie attack. Rashaun McLemore led Cal State Northridge with a career-high 26 points. Lenny Daniel added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Matadors.
The Aggies poured in ten three-pointers for the game.
Cal State Northridge shot just 34 percent (22-for-64) for the game and 24 percent (7-for-29) from behind the arc.
Cal State Northridge was down 12-4 early in the game. UC Davis hit its first four shots, all three-pointers.
UC Davis led 22-8 with 11:51 on the first half clock.
The Matadors had nine unanswered points to cut the deficit to three but UC Davis went back up by double digits with a 31-21 score at the 5:51 mark. Cal State Northridge had the deficit down to two again, before the Aggies had five straight points to make the score 40-33 at the break.
The Aggies extended their lead to eight early in the second half, taking a 48-40 advantage with 15:49 on the clock. The Matadors responded with a 9-3 run, climbing to within two points with a 51-49 score at the 11:07 mark.
UC Davis traded baskets over the next several minutes but never surrendered its lead. The Aggies took control late in the game with a 6-1 run, taking a 70-60 lead with 1:30 left to play.
UC Davis held Cal State Northridge without a field goal for over three minutes during that stretch. The Matadors got as close as seven but the Aggies managed to hit some late free throws to make the final score 78-66.
UC Davis led the entire second half.
