Deon Tresvant Named Big West Player of the Week
Santa Ana Calif. - Cal State Northridge junior reserve guard Deon Tresvant (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach CC/Cabrillo HS) made 11 three-pointers in two Matador road wins to claim Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades for the week ending Jan. 5.
Tresvant exploded for a career-high 31 points against league preseason favorite UC Santa Barbara, leading the Matadors to an 88-84 road win on Saturday. Tresvant, who scored 23 of those points in the second half, was instrumental in bringing the Matadors back from a 13-point deficit. Key to the outcome was Tresvant's seven three-pointers in 11 attempts. The 31 points by Tresvant was the eighth-best single-game total in school history. In addition, he posted career-highs in rebounds (7) and steals (4) versus the Gauchos, while making 10 of 17 shots overall.
In CSUN's league-opening win at Cal Poly (80-59) on Thursday, Tresvant notched 16 points and four assists. He drained four three-pointers in 26 minutes off the bench.
For the week, Tresvant averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 50 percent (16 of 32) overall and 55 percent (11 of 20) from three-point range.
