Anaheim, Ca. - Lenny Daniel, CSUN's leading scorer (16.3 ppg) and rebounder (9.4 rpg) during the 2010-11 season, was named to the ampm Big West Conference All-Tournament team following the conclusion of Sunday's 64-56 victory by UC Santa Barbara over Long Beach State to win the tournament title.
Daniel, in two games at the tournament, scored 35 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and blocked four shots. In a 75-54 opening round victory over Cal State Fullerton (3/10/11), Daniel scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots. The following night (3/11/11) in a semifinal game against Big West Tournament champion UC Santa Barbara, Daniel collected his 17th double-double of the season with 16 points and eleven rebounds.
Daniel, earlier in the week, was named first team All-Big West Conference, the fifth player in Matador history to gain such an accolade.
Besides Daniel, UCSB's Orlando Johnson, Jaime Serna and James Nunnally, and Casper Ware and Larry Anderson were named to the Big West All-Tournament team. Johnson was named tournament MVP.
Tournament Tale ... The total attendance for Saturday's men's and women's championship games of the 2011 ampm Big West Basketball tournament was 6,474 ... The three-day total of 15,396 fans that attended this year's event represented a 47 percent increase over last year ... Saturday's attendance of 6,474 was a single-day increase of 68 percent ... Saturday's men's championship game (UCSB vs LBS) attendance of 5,341 was the third largest to see a Big West final during its 17-year tenure in Anaheim (1977-82, 2001-11) ... It was also the largest crowd to attend a men's basketball game between two Big West teams this season.
