Deon Tresvant Wins MVP Honors At CSUN Men's Basketball Banquet
April 20, 2008
Northridge, Calif. - Deon Tresvant almost quit basketball during his freshman season in junior college. However, through hard work and many conversations with his father, Tresvant worked hard to develop his basketball skills, and transferred to Long Beach City College during his sophomore season where he averaged 25 points a game. His hard work paid dividends as he became a prolific scorer, once scoring a state junior college record 63 points in a game.
Today, Tresvant is one of the top three-pointer shooters in the Big West Conference, and projected to be one of the top shooters in the country next year.
Tresvant set an unusual record of distinction for Cal State Northridge in 2007-08. Tresvant became the first player in the 50-year history of Matador basketball to lead the team in scoring (13.9 ppg) in a reserve role as Cal State Northridge chalked up a 20-10 overall record, and a 12-4 mark in the Big West. For his efforts, Tresvant was named this year's winner of the Andre Chevalier MVP Award which was presented to the junior guard during the annual banquet on Sunday night at the Porter Valley Golf Club.
Tresvant's stats did not go unnoticed by the league coaches. Tresvant was named Best Sixth Man in the Big West and also gained second team all-league honors. Tresvant had a team-leading 83 three-pointers, second-best in the Big West and second all-time for a single season at CSUN. Tresvant also attempted 201 three-pointers, #2 all-time for a single season in Matador hoops history. Tresvant made at least one three-pointer in 29 of 30 games. Tresvant, who also averaged 16.3 ppg during league play, scored in double figures in 20 games, all in a reserve role.
