What was significant was that the Matadors never gave up after being down 39-32 at halftime.

"That Matador team was a very confident group. We were a veteran group that played well together. We had great players including Jeff Parris, Brian Heinle, Carl Holmes, Marco McCain and Markus Carr, who I thought was probably the best point guard in the Western United States that year. We were a tough, physical team that would be going against a very talented UCLA team. The Bruins were nationally-ranked at the time, but in the end our team prevailed. It was a very special night." Bobby Braswell, CSUN Head Coach
