STOCKTON, Calif. - Junior Kyler Sauer fired an opening round of four under-par 68 and sits in a tie for sixth-place, just three shots off the pace Monday after the opening round of the Stockton Convention and Visitors Bureau Pacific Invitational at Brookside C.C. As a team, Cal State Northridge is 11th after a round of 293.
Sauer, who has been the Matadors' low scorer in two of three fall tournaments, fired a 68 on Monday which is the second lowest round of the season for a CSUN golfer. It was Sauer's 67 at the Firestone Grill Invitational that remains the Matadors' low round of the year. Sauer is currently three shots off the pace set by a trio of players who share the lead at seven under 65.
Also for CSUN, senior Matt Siporin is tied for 41st after a first round one over 73, Shane Blanchard is tied for 48th at two over 74 while Ryan Green and Oscar Sachs are each tied for 59th at six over 78.
As a team, the Matadors posted an opening round 293, their third-lowest 18-hole round this season. CSUN, however, is well off the blistering pace set by tournament hosts Pacific and Kansas State which each came in at 14-under 274 after round one.
The second of three rounds is scheduled for Tuesday with the final round set for Wednesday.
