Matadors Rally on Final Day but Can't Move Up at Cowboy Classic

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Cal State Northridge put together its best round at the wind-shortened Wyoming Cowboy Classic Tuesday at Talking Stick G.C. However the Matadors were not able to move up from 24th-place.

The Matadors, who carded an opening round 324 which dropped them to 24th, they rebounded with a round of 297 on Tuesday but could not move up. The tournament was scheduled for 54 holes, but the afternoon round on Monday was cancelled due to high winds.

Junior Kyler Sauer was one of the five Matadors who improved from round one to round two. Sauer opened with an eight-over par 78 on Monday but closed with a one-under 69 to move up from 54th to 25th place. With his second round 69, his best round since a 68 in the final fall tournament, he finished at seven-over 147.

Oscar Sachs, who was also in 54th after day one's 78, slipped to 80th after a final round six-over 76. Sachs finished at (+14) 154.
