UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - Cal State Northridge posted its fourth top-10 finish of 2013-14 Tuesday as the Matadors completed play at the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay. Senior Kyler Sauer led CSUN with a seventh-place finish.
The Matadors, who sat fifth after the opening round, slipped to 10th following the second round and remained there following a final round 300. CSUN finished with a team score of 877.
UCLA (835) won the team title in the 18-team field made up of several top-20 squads.
Senior Kyler Sauer was again CSUN's low man as he fired rounds of 67-71-72 to finish at one-under 210. In six spring tournaments, Sauer now has a pair of second-place finishes in addition this week's seventh.
Michael O'Connor, who was right there with Sauer after an opening round 68, slipped to 11th after round two before evenually finishing 25th at five-over 216 after a final round 77. Dodge Ward finished in a tie for 64th at 15-over 226 after scores of 72-76-78, Oscar Sachs tied for 70th at 17-over 228 following rounds of 75-79-74 and Aden Louez tied for 81st at 21-over 232 after scores of 78-77-77.
The Matadors will have one final tuneup before the Big West Championship (Apr. 27-29) as the team heads to Santa Barbara for the OGIO Pacific Coast Invitational at Sandpiper G.C. (Apr. 14-15).
