Sauer Finishes Second, Matadors Seventh at Big West Championship

SAN JACINTO, Calif. - Senior Kyler Sauer jumped four spots with a second round two-under 70 but the Cal State Northridge men's golf team dropped three spots into seventh at the conclusion of the Big West Championship at Saboba Springs Country Club.

The final round of the championship was cancelled due to heavy winds, the results through two rounds will stand as final.

Sauer, who sat alone in sixth place following a one-under 71 on Sunday, fired a two-under 70 on Monday to move into a tie for second at three-under 141. The senior upped his birdie total to six on Monday to go with nine pars. Sauer, who is tied with two other players, heads into the final round five shots back of leader Matt Hansen of UC Davis.

Three of the other four CSUN golfers dropped following the second round as the team posted a score of 300 to drop from a tie for fourth into seventh. The Matadors (295-300--595) hoped to make a move up the leaderboard on Monday but instead slipped into the lower third. Cal State Fullerton (578) maintained its two-shot lead over UC Davis (580) in the nine-team field.

Oscar Sachs and Michael O'Connor are tied for 24th at seven-over 150. Sachs, who was tied for seventh after an opening round 72, struggled to a seven-over 79 on Monday while O'Connor followed up a round of 75 on Sunday with a 76 this afternoon.

Dodge Ward posted a four-shot improvement as he posted a three-over 75 on Monday to move into a tie for 37th at 10-over 154. Aden Louez rounded out the scoring as he dropped from 30th to 40th at 12-over 156 following a second round 79.
