FRESNO, Calif. - Cal State Northridge men's golf finished with rounds of 297-305-296 and the Matadors finished the day where they started, 13th at the Fresno State Lexus Classic at Belmont C.C. Nick Delio paced Northridge with a 19th-place finish.
After a second round 305 dropped the Matadors out of the top-10 on Monday, Northridge was hoping to make up some ground on Tuesday. But the final round 296 left the Matadors in 13th-place after the final round, just five strokes out of the top-10.
Delio was looking to extend his streak of top-five finishes to four straight tournaments but after an opening-round 70, he carded rounds of 77 and 73 to finish the tournament at four over-par 220. Senior Clint Oleson, who was tied for 13th after two rounds, posted a final round 76 to finish at six over-par 222. Senior Erik Jarvey finished in a tie for 40th at nine over-par 225 after rounds of 74-76-75, Jeff Freund finished tied for 76th at (+16) 232 after rounds of 79-81-72 and Casey Piper tied for 97th at (+26) 242 after rounds of 83-80-79.
Washington took the team title with a three round one under-par 865. Host Fresno State was second at 870 while a pair of Big West schools, UC Davis and UC Irvine tied for third at 876. The Aggies' Ramie Sprinkling took home individual medalist honors with a four under-par total of 212.
Cal State Northridge will be back in action at the end of March (30-31) as the Matadors head to Irvine to compete in the Anteater Invitational.
