Matadors Claim Consolation Championship at Cal Poly/Lamkin Grip Match Play

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Matt Siporin won all three of his matches and the Cal State Northridge men's golf team finished 2-1 to claim the consolation championship at the Cal Poly/Lamkin Grip Match Play Invitational at Cypress Ridge G.C.

The Matadors finished 1-1 on Thursday, falling to CSU Bakersfield 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 but rebounded to defeat Utah Valley University 5&0. Siporin won both of his matches on Thursday while Nick Delio tied one and won one.

Northridge then took on the University of LaVerne in the consolation match on Friday and defeated the Leopards 4&1. Siporin completed the match play invitational undefeated by winning 4&3. Delio also won his Friday match 2up while Jeff Freund won 3&1 and Chris Russo won 3&2.

The Matadors will be back in action Apr. 4-5 as Northridge competes at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Talking Stick G.C. in Scottsdale, Ariz.
