TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior Nick Delio fired rounds of 72-65 for a two-round five under-par 137 and carries a one-shot lead into Sunday's final round of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational at the ASU Karsten Course.
As a team, the Matadors are in a tie for seventh-place with Northwestern and UNLV at 578. CSUN carded team rounds of 292-286, the second round 286 is one shot off the teams' low round of the season.
USC is in the lead at 10-under par 558 (287-271) with San Diego State (567) nine shots back in the 13-team field.
Delio opened with a one over-par 72 under tough weather conditions Saturday morning but bounced back with a blistering six under-par 65 in the afternoon round. His second round 65 is his best 18 holes since also posting a 65 in the final round of the 2008 Big West Championship. He carries a one-shot lead over USC's Steve Lim into Sunday's final 18 holes.
Matt Siporin also had a solid two rounds on Saturday as he is tied for third, just two shots back of Delio. Siporin finished with rounds of two under 69 and and one under-par 70 and is tied with three other players at (-3) 139.
The other three Matadors were not as fortunate on Saturday as Chris Russo is tied for 49th at (+7) 142 after rounds of 74-75, Jake Katz and Satch Herrmann are both tied for 72nd at (+16) 158. Katz posted rounds of 82-76 while Herrmann carded rounds of 77-81. Arthur Chung is also in the field, playing as an individual, and is tied for 64th at (+11) 153 following rounds of 78-75.
