SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Opening rounds of 300 and 302 left the Cal State Northridge men's golf team with plenty of ground to make up Monday at the Big West Championship at San Luis Obispo C.C.
The Matadors, who came into the championship as the fourth seed in the eight-team field, are currently in eighth place at (+26) 602. Northridge trails seventh-place Cal Poly (601) by one shot and are two shots back of sixth-place UC Santa Barbara (600). UC Davis leads the tournament at 577 followed by UC Irvine (579), Pacific (582), UC Riverside (583) and Long Beach State (591).
Senior Clint Oleson's 17th place finish paced the Matadors after two rounds. Oleson finished with back-to-back rounds of 74 and is at four over-par 148 heading into Tuesday's final round. Oleson is 10 shots behind leader Andrew Patipaksiril of UC Riverside.
Sophomore Nick Delio is alone in 22nd place, one shot behind Oleson, at five over-par 149. Delio completed rounds of 74-75 on Monday. Jeff Freund bounced back from a tough tournament at Arizona State with rounds of 76-75 on Monday and is tied for 25th seven over-par 151. Jason Rosenkranz and Erik Jarvey are both tied for 28th at (+11) 155.
